James Blake

Early in 2016, James Blake threw a party with his 1-800 Dinosaur label collective and early Dubstep evangelists DMZ at The Prince of Wales pub, Brixton. Through his last five years’ musical adventures, James’ exquisite song suites have taken him to lofty places. James Blake climaxed the world tour in support of his last record, Overgrown, to successive standing ovations over two nights at The Sydney Opera House. ‘Just mind-blowing, the kind of thing you dream of,’ he says. ‘Every night ended with just me and piano.’ As he releases his third suite, The Colour in Anything, James is still only 27 years old.

Jagwar Ma

Jagwar Ma came together in Sydney Australia when Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield bonded over a mutual passion of melody and experimental beats, and the pair set out creating a sound that would capture their love for contemporary electronica & classic American pop harmony, Joe Meek & King Tubby, vintage drum machines & radio frequency manipulation, improvised percussion and other esoteric methods of creating sound.

Courteeners

It’s long been a tradition when writing about Courteeners to portray them as plucky survivors persevering in the face of a cold, unforgiving media. That, or to dismiss them as a purely geographical phenomenon. A freak Mancunian flare-up whose appeal evaporates the minute they travel past the M60. Neither of these things are true….

Pinkunoizu

Following the brilliant PEEP EP, the spectral Pinkunoizu are set to release their debut album, Free Time!, on Full Time Hobby. Named after the Japanese word for “pink noise” and based in Copenhagen and Berlin, multiculturalism is at the forefront of this band’s world – they play an exotic mixture of lo-fi, high-life, nu-folklore, ’60s Asian pop and post-apocalyptic future rock. “Most of what I write comes from picking up exciting words or phrases from wherever I stumble upon them,” says chief songwriter Andreas Pallisgaard. “Or maybe it simply comes from floating around like some empty receptor, open to letting the language of the world flow through me.”
